Preventive maintenance checklist for framing machines
Preventive maintenance is easiest when it becomes part of production rather than a repair activity saved for a breakdown.

Every shift: clean and observe
Remove offcuts, dust and loose fasteners from the working area using the method recommended for the machine. Check guards, cables, hoses and emergency controls before production begins. Listen for a new sound and notice any change in movement or pressure.
Inspect the first finished component rather than assuming yesterday's setting remains correct. A quick check of cut quality, length or joint closure can reveal wear before a full batch is affected.
Every week: inspect the production points
Examine blades, cutters, fences, clamps, driver components and contact surfaces relevant to the equipment. Look for looseness, damage, build-up and uneven wear. Confirm that measuring stops and reference surfaces remain secure and clean.
Drain and check compressed-air preparation equipment where fitted, following the manufacturer's instructions. Never introduce lubricant or adjust a component unless the machine documentation calls for it.
Every month: verify and record
Use a known reference to verify measurement and squareness. Review mounting bolts, moving assemblies and electrical or pneumatic connections that the maintenance instructions identify for periodic inspection.
Record what was checked, what was adjusted and which parts were replaced. A short log reveals recurring problems and helps distinguish normal wear from an operating or alignment issue.
Keep the right spares nearby
Build a small stock of the approved wear parts and consumables that can stop production if unavailable. The list depends on the machine, but it should be agreed during installation rather than during an urgent repair.
If output quality changes suddenly or a safety component is damaged, stop and diagnose the cause. Scheduled care reduces breakdowns; it should never become a reason to operate equipment outside safe limits.
